This sector can be divided into two areas, solutions used below 100km and solutions used above 100km.
Aircraft electrification (below 100km)
The electrification of flight will bring many of the benefits of the electric car into the Aero space sector. Emissions and noise will be almost completely eliminated. Smaller aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing capability will be able to take advantage of the low emissions/ low noise characteristics and operate from smaller locations, close to urban areas.
Typical thermal solutions would be liquid cold plates removing the heat away from critical electronics Columbia-Staver solutions could include:
Lightweight, counterflow isothermal cold plates
Ultra Lightweight stamped and brazed cold plates
Satellite solutions (above 100km)
Solutions designed for use in the space environment and its associated harsh launch conditions must be both lightweight very robust and they must operate in a zero G environment.
Copper water heat pipes and vapor chambers are ideal candidates for this environment and can beĀ integrated into countless design configurations. Columbia-Staver solutions would include:
Heat pipe assemblies
The heat pipes can be held in place in a variety of ways depending on the larger design.
Embedded heat pipes and Vapor chambers
Two phase devices (Heat-Pipes & Vapor Chambers) can be embedded into aluminium frames to greatly improve the thermal conductivity and to enhance heat spreading.
